Disinformation, misinformation, hate speech, algorithms, artificial intelligence, and deepfakes are all pervasive concepts that shape our connected society. Yet, their true meanings and the extent of their impact on our perception of the world and our behaviors remain unclear to many. More importantly, understanding how to respond to these challenges is crucial in today’s digital landscape.
To address these issues, our interactive workshops are designed specifically for 11th and 12th-grade students. Over the course of two hours, participants explore the mechanisms of disinformation, analyze its dangers, and discuss practical strategies to counter its influence. Through engaging activities, they learn to recognize online information traps, grasp their own role in the digital ecosystem, and develop critical thinking skills to responsibly assess and share content.
This workshop aims to equip young people with essential skills to identify and critically analyze misinformation in the digital age. Participants learn to detect fake news, understand how disinformation spreads, and navigate social media platforms responsibly. The workshop is particularly suited for high school students and young adults who frequently engage with digital content and social media, offering them valuable insights into the digital world they interact with daily.
The sessions are facilitated by university students specializing in political science, law, communication, and related fields. These facilitators bring expertise in social media trends, misinformation tactics, and the use of artificial intelligence in information manipulation. Their proximity in age to the participants creates an atmosphere of trust and engagement, fostering meaningful exchanges and making complex topics more accessible.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of different types of misinformation and disinformation. They will be able to critically evaluate digital content, identify fake news, and apply practical fact-checking techniques. Additionally, they will feel more confident in navigating social media platforms responsibly and contributing positively to online discussions.
This workshop provides young people with the essential tools to become responsible digital citizens, ensuring they can confidently engage with online content in an informed and critical manner.
