Bridging the Gap Between Young Voters and Politics: CIVIX’s 2024 Conferences

In 2024, CIVIX took significant steps to address the democratic engagement gap among young voters in Belgium by organizing two major conferences in March and June. These events provided a unique opportunity for young people to engage directly with political leaders, ask pressing questions, and gain a clearer understanding of Belgium’s complex political landscape.

March 2024: First-Time Voters and Political Leaders at ULB

With over 1.3 million Belgians abstaining or casting blank/null votes in the 2019 elections—representing 17% of the electorate—accessible and clear political information has never been more crucial. In response to this, CIVIX organized a major conference on March 23, 2024, at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), bringing together representatives from all major Francophone political parties.

This event was particularly aimed at first-time voters, offering them the chance to hear directly from key political figures, engage in discussions, and clarify their questions before heading to the polls.

Following the conference, attendees participated in a networking drink session, allowing them to interact with candidates in a more informal setting and discuss key political issues in a relaxed atmosphere. With over 300 participants, this event was a great success, reinforcing CIVIX’s commitment to empowering young voters.

As part of its ongoing mission, CIVIX is also developing a digital platform powered by AI, designed to compare political party programs in a factual and unbiased manner, making political information more accessible than ever.

June 2024: Engaging Over 400 Young People Ahead of the Elections

Building on the success of the March event, CIVIX organized another major conference ahead of the June 2024 elections. This time, over 400 young people, political leaders, ministers, and candidates gathered for an interactive and dynamic exchange. The goal was clear: equip young voters with the knowledge and confidence they need to make informed decisions at the ballot box.

During the event, attendees had the opportunity to:

✅ Engage directly with party leaders and candidates through discussions and one-on-one interactions.

✅ Participate in interactive workshops designed to clarify key political issues.

✅ Listen to impactful pitches from political representatives about their vision for the future.

This initiative was part of a broader effort by CIVIX to bridge the gap between young voters and politics, ensuring that every voice matters in shaping the society of tomorrow.

In addition to this conference, CIVIX also:➡️ Led workshops in secondary schools, reaching hundreds of 16-18-year-olds voting for the first time in the European elections.➡️ Developed an AI-powered chatbot, helping over 17,000 users compare party programs and get answers to their political questions.

We are incredibly grateful to all the political representatives, experts, volunteers, and partners who contributed to making these events a success. Together, we are shaping an engaged and informed generation of voters.

Now, it’s up to you—make your voice heard and vote! 🗳️
